Sheriff Michael Bellotti receives labor award for combatting substance abuse

By: Ed Baker

Norfolk County Sheriff Michael G. Bellotti received the Labor Assistance Professionals Civil Service Award for helping people recover from substance abuse issues. “I’m humbled to be chosen for this award,” Bellotti said in a written statement. “The Labor Assistance Professionals are on the front lines of helping union men and women live healthy and productive lives. This award means a great deal to me.”

The Labor Assistance Professionals is a nationwide organization of retired and active members of a trade union or union-management joint program who are involved with administering member assistance programs that have an emphasis on mental health, substance abuse or dependency issues. Bellotti received the award during a Nov. 17 ceremony at Florian Hall in Dorchester.
