About twelve miles inland from the port city of Piombino, in the southern corner of Tuscany, we find the village of Suvereto, beautifully surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and low wooded hills. The Tyrrhenian Sea is only a short drive away, but the atmosphere here feels far removed from the coastal traffic and ferry terminals.
Approaching the village, you see stone walls and towers rising above the countryside, the kind of view that immediately talks about a place affected by centuries of history. Suvereto is small, but it carries the typical character of many Tuscan hill towns, part medieval settlement, part agricultural community, and part destination for travelers looking for a slower type of vacation.
