Taste of Italy Kicks Off Preparation for 2018 Nutley-Belleville Columbus Day Parade

By: Deborah Ann Tripoldi

The Nutley Parks and Recreation building was transformed into “little Italy” on Sunday, March 18. Rows and rows of Italian food were lined up for people to enjoy in a buffet style. The annual Taste of Italy hosted by Chair Vito Matturro and Co-Chair Melissa Matturro is the sole fundraiser for the Nutley-Belleville Columbus Day parade. Over 40 area restaurants and bakeries including the Belleville High School culinary arts students donated their food and time to the event.

A successful event with over 350 attendees included parade honorees, family, friends and parade supporters. The event was sold out according to Susan LaMorte. “We ran out of paper tickets. People were still coming and most the food was gone, I couldn’t charge them,” she said.
