Tasty traditions: Italian Festival a family-affair fundraiser filled with food and fun

Saturday was Nick Ameli's 22nd Italian Festival, and he's been in charge of them for 20 years. Ameli was greeting people as they purchased a buffet style Italian meal, complete with spaghetti, meatballs, lasagna, salad and dessert, at the Bluefield Auditorium. The festival is a fundraiser for Order Sons of Italy Southern West Virginia Chapter.

"We started out at the Roma Club in Princeton," he said. "Then we went to the Armory (Brushfork) but we couldn't use it any more after troops were sent to Afghanistan. We've been here for 15 years." Ameli said the event has "always had a good turnout."
