Wichita State University's School of Music and Performing Arts will present "The Light in the Piazza" as part of National Opera Week at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 29-31, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in Miller Concert Hall.
The romantic musical comedy, which won six Tony Awards, follows the story of two young lovers in 1950s Italy. Parental concerns and cultural differences conspire unsuccessfully to keep the young lovers apart, expressed through a charmingly combined English and Italian libretto that gives the piece an authentic Tuscan flavor.
