Italian infrastructure giant Webuild has been included in TIME magazine’s 2026 list of the world’s most influential companies, highlighting the growing global role of Italian engineering and construction expertise. The Milan-based group was recognized in the “Pioneers” category for its ability to deliver some of the world’s most ambitious and technically challenging infrastructure projects.
Founded in Italy and still led by Italian management under CEO Pietro Salini, Webuild has become one of the country’s most internationally recognized industrial companies. The group operates in more than 50 countries and employs roughly 92,000 people worldwide, working on projects tied to sustainable mobility, hydroelectric energy, water infrastructure, rail systems, tunnels, and bridges.
In presenting the award, TIME described Webuild as “a builder of some of the world’s most complex infrastructure projects,” praising the company’s work on projects capable of reshaping transportation and energy systems on a global scale. The magazine specifically highlighted the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the largest hydroelectric project ever built in Africa, as an example of the company’s engineering capabilities and international reach.
Webuild has also significantly expanded in the United States through its subsidiary Lane Construction, acquired in 2016. The American division is currently involved in major highway, rail, and transportation projects across multiple states, further strengthening the Italian company’s global footprint.
The TIME100 Most Influential Companies list for 2026 included 205 organizations across 20 sectors, recognizing businesses driving innovation, sustainability, and economic transformation worldwide. Webuild was one of only a handful of Italian companies selected, reinforcing Italy’s longstanding reputation for engineering excellence and large-scale infrastructure expertise.
