Town adds Indigenous Peoples’ Day to calendar -- but Columbus is still there, too

By: India Duke

Princeton is now the second New Jersey town to officially recognize “Indigenous Peoples’ Day” as the second Monday in October. While some towns across the country have replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous People’s Day, officials in Princeton say they plan to celebrate both.

"We wanted to make it a positive thing. This is something we hope that everyone will take part in,” said Princeton Councilwoman and Civil Rights Commission Liaison Leticia Fraga. So, she said, the day will be shared with Columbus Day and isn’t meant to replace or overshadow it.
