As you are probably already aware, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) is currently considering the implementation of 100 percent tariffs on food and wines produced in the European Union, including Italian products. The USTR already imposed 25 percent tariffs on Italian cheese and other food products in October of last year. The fallout for Italian cheese producers has been challenging, to say the least.
If the 100 percent tariffs are imposed, many Italian food and wine producers who count on the U.S. market for sales of their products will be seriously impacted. In some cases, the results could be disastrous, causing many businesses — on both sides of the Atlantic — to shutter.
