Wilmington City Council is OK with a community effort to bring the old Christopher Columbus statue back to a public display. Council voted on a resolution in opposition to the statue's potential return to Father Tucker Park, which is in Wilmington's Little Italy neighborhood, or any other public land.
The resolution was introduced by Council member Shané Darby, who said the request to return the statue was "out of touch" and could be offensive to other residents of the city. The resolution was defeated with six "no" votes, 3 "yes" votes, and two council members voted "present."
