One of Italian cinema's greatest secrets is revealed in this nine-film spotlight on director Mario Monicelli, a filmmaker responsible for some of the biggest comic hits that country has ever seen, yet whose name remains criminally unrecognized in the United States. Fresh from a successful New York retrospective, this series showcases Monicelli's reputation as the king of "Comedy, Italian Style", and also Italy's Everyman, an artist who put entertaining audiences above pleasing every critic.
