Just as ordering ristretto at a coffee shop promises a caffeinated wallop in a small dose, the San Diego Italian Film Festival’s new competition promises to demonstrate the power of short films. The festival will be held at Balboa Park’s Museum of Photographic Arts from Tuesday through Oct. 27.
Of the 60 submissions to the festival’s short-film competition, called “Italy Exported,” 20 were finalists. Ten will be screened on Oct. 19, while the others will accompany the individual full-length movies that will be shown. The three winners, to be announced at the event’s gala on Oct. 26, will receive a “Ristretto” award.
