Richard "Pete" Peterson will speak on Italian-American players in Major League Baseball at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Herrin City Library. Among players he will feature are Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola. "Also deserving of discussion is the Cubs' Phil Cavaretta, the first Italian-American manager in the Majors, and Joe DiMaggio was an iconic player within this category as well," Peterson said. "Tony Lazzeri, a New York Yankee who contributed to the Cardinals' first World Series in 1926, will be featured too."

Peterson is professor emeritus of English at SIU and, for the past 10 years, he's been associated with WSIU Radio's "Reading Baseball" series. He is also an author of books on baseball, including "The St. Louis Baseball Reader" and "The Pirates Reader."
