Tom Izzo’s ethnicity is a mix of Italian and Finnish descent. Yes, he grew up surrounded by a blend of strong European cultures. His Italian roots trace back to his grandparents, who immigrated to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, bringing with them a fiery spirit and a love for family that Izzo often credits for his passion.
But, more than his Finnish roots, his Italian roots are a big part of his personality, especially when it comes to his fiery coaching style. You must be familiar with him being angry during press conferences or towards his players, so he has reason to do it. Sometimes he was called a “teddy bear,” but once people also voted him as the fifth angriest coach in college basketball.
