This year, we are especially excited to feature three classic films celebrating Massimo Troisi, il comico dei sentimenti (the comedian of feelings). A beloved actor, screenwriter, and director, Troisi captivated audiences with his heartfelt humor and profoundly human storytelling, leaving an indelible mark on Italian cinema.

To honor his legacy, we are thrilled to welcome his longtime screenwriting partner, Anna Pavignano, for a live Zoom conversation with IFF Artistic Director Tommaso Cammarano.

Additionally, we are thrilled to welcome screenwriter and director Francesco Bruni to the Twin Cities to celebrate his career. Don't miss this unique opportunity to engage with one of Italy's leading contemporary filmmakers through three remarkable films. Un Altro Ferragosto—one of IFF 2025's U.S. premieres—showcases his sharp, biting dialogue, while Tutto quello che vuoi (2017) masterfully blends humor and emotion. Bruni will also introduce and moderate a Q&A for Io la conoscevo bene (1965), an overlooked masterpiece by Antonio Pietrangeli that he deeply admires. Together, these films offer a deeper understanding of Bruni's work while creating a truly enjoyable cinematic experience.

Director Fabio Mollo will also join us in person to present Semidei, a documentary on the Bronzi di Riace, two ancient Greek statues discovered off Calabria's coast in 1972 and among the 20th century's most significant archaeological finds. Premiered at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival, this film makes its U.S. debut at IFF.

E non finisce qui! And it's not over yet!

We are honored to welcome one of Italy's most sought-after actors, Vinicio Marchioni, who stars in both Un Altro Ferragosto and C’è ancora domani. He will engage with the audience and share insights into these films.

Our centerpiece film, C’è ancora domani, marks Paola Cortellesi's directorial debut and has become Italy's biggest box-office hit of 2023. This powerful yet humorous drama about gender inequality and women's resilience even surpassed the Barbenheimer phenomenon in Italy and is now the highest-grossing film ever directed by an Italian woman.

This year's lineup features what many critics consider the most important directorial debut of 2024—IFF's cheerful, irresistible, and uplifting closing night film, Gloria!, directed by Margherita Vicario. It also includes new films by two of Italy's most impressive and distinctive young talents, Francesco Costabile and Enrico Maria Artale, and a wonderfully written and highly entertaining family portrait, Sei Fratelli. Our extraordinary opening night film, Il tempo che ci vuole, is Francesca Comencini's most successful work to date. This deeply personal film tells the true story of her relationship with her father, the renowned Italian director Luigi Comencini, and is at once beautiful, touching, magical, heartbreaking, and heartwarming.

Whether you are new to Italian cinema, an expert, or like to stay updated on the latest trends, whether you wish to laugh, cry, or do all of the above, there will surely be something exciting for everyone.
