R.I.'s Nick Albanese draws on Italian roots for one-man show

In the two decades since Nick Albanese got a theater degree from the University of Rhode Island, he's tried his hand at standup, even started a theater group doing one-act plays. But he seems to have found his niche with a one-man show about growing up Italian in Providence's North End. He opened "The Last Sicilian" last November at Cranston's Theatre 82 in Rolfe Square, and reports that it was "a hit right away." "People started talking about it," he said.

Albanese has been presenting the 70-minute show once a month, and will be back on stage Saturday, Aug. 20, at 8 p.m., introducing audiences to the history of Sicily, where his parents were born, and life growing up over his father's bakery on Charles Street.
