The life of Buffalo filmmaker John Maggio is coming full circle before a national television audience. In 1973, Maggio, age 3, was holding the bongos in a photograph featuring eight family members that appeared in a Buffalo newspaper story headlined: "From Italy Came a Heritage."
That photograph is the final image of the 45-year-old Maggio's fascinating four-hour PBS series, "The Italian Americans," which premieres nationally at 9 p.m. Feb. 17 and Feb. 24. "I dedicate the film to my family," Maggio explained in a telephone interview. "It has come full circle in many ways. The story was all about migration and where we come from. I actually looked at that article to learn more about myself."
