'Love in Firenze' comes to The Addy at Proctors

By: Joseph Dalton

Composer Ed Munger, 76, and lyricist Herb Weisburgh, 82, are a local songwriting duo who have been working together for 50 years. Their first and only stage work, the musical "Love in Firenze," is finally having a full production this week at The Addy, the intimate new theater at Proctors. Named after the city of Florence (Firenze), the show is a lyric romance set in New York City and Italy during the mid-1980s.

"We say it's a lighthearted musical," says Weisburgh. "It's about the fact that love can happen under all kinds of circumstances. Age is not a factor in love but family is important, and values are important." The story revolves around Victor (played by Phil Bruns), a youthful New Yorker. During a visit to Italy he falls for an opera singer named Lucia (played by Anna Starr).
