N.I.C.E. USA 2024 - 34th EDITION. New York: November 8-9-12. Philadelphia: December 6-7-8. N.I.C.E. (New Italian Cinema Events) is a cultural organization founded by Viviana Del Bianco in Florence, with the aim of promoting contemporary independent Italian cinema worldwide through screenings and cultural events in Europe, Asia and the US.
"I like to think of this new edition of N.I.C.E. USA 2024 as yet another opportunity for the discovery of new perspectives, new talents, and new possibilities for promotion. As always, N.I.C.E. presents a program of directors who have marked the history of debut films, while keeping an eye on the future and a cinema committed to telling ongoing transformations through the lens of social and political analysis, research, and experimentation with languages," says Viviana Del Bianco, artistic director of N.I.C.E.
N.I.C.E. will be hosted in New York at the historic Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC), just as it was for its first edition in the United States. N.I.C.E. is also twinned with Sudestival, directed by michele Suma, a reference point for quality Italian cinema in Puglia, which takes place in the beautiful setting of the city of Monopoli. The screenings will be supported by long-time partners such as Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, with the valuable support of the Italian Ministry of Culture and Luce Cinecittà.
N.I.C.E. will open with Profondo Argento, directed by Giancarlo Rolandi and Steve Della Casa (produced by Baires Produzioni and Luce Cinecittà), a documentary that celebrates the iconic career of the master of Italian horror, Dario Argento. This film also marks the first directorial collaboration between Rolandi and Della Casa, signaling a new and interesting creative synergy between the two. This will be followed by Gloria! by Margherita Vicario, which tells the story of a young artist seeking balance between her professional aspirations and societal expectations. N.I.C.E. will close on November 12 with Zamora by Neri Marcorè, a poignant work exploring the concept of home and roots through a man's journey to discover his origins.
Among the guests in New York will be director Giancarlo Rolandi, producer Maurizio Tedesco (Profondo Argento), and actress Marta Gastini (Zamora), while director Margherita Vicario will participate remotely.
The festival will then continue in Philadelphia at Penn Cinema and Media Studies, featuring a selection of seven films, supported by the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia.
