Sharp eyes from AL.com’s Matt Zenitz resulted in a rundown of the new jersey numbers for Alabama’s early enrollees and a few switches for returners. It’s fairly routine stuff, except for one number reservation that jumped out at me.
Najee Harris, a freshman running back coming off a meniscus tear and a recent 5-star recruit, was given No. 22. Recent Alabama fans will remember that as Heisman winner Mark Ingram’s number, but older fans know that its lineage goes back further, to a Alabama’s first heyday, when a halfback of Italian descent made his impact at the Capstone.
