Auburn softball assistant coach Emily Carosone was the first Tiger to hit the Olympic stage as Team Italy opened the 2020 Tokyo Olympics against Team USA Wednesday afternoon at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium. After three scoreless innings to open the game, the United States plated a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to take the opening round win, 2-0.
Carosone, the first Olympian in Auburn softball program history, earned the start for Team Italy at designated player. The former three-time All-American for the Tigers made three plate appearances, reaching base in the first inning via a hit by pitch.
