In a historic collaboration between Filmmaker and Exhibitor, Austin based Director Sergio Carvajal-Leoni and San Marcos based EVO Entertainment Group are bringing local storytelling to the silver screen with Carvajal-Leoni’s celebrated Texan-Italian comedy Tiramisu For Two. After a sold out local premiere and packed limited trial run, the locally produced film is now expanding to EVO Cinemas across three different cities in Central Texas.
Filmmakers and exhibitors rarely work together as films are traditionally distributed via major Hollywood movie studios. To play their movies in theaters, independent filmmakers must usually travel to national and international film festivals in the hopes of landing a distribution deal. “The ultimate goal of a filmmaker is to show their film in theaters, there’s nothing like it. Sadly, this rarely happens anymore and most independent films end up being distributed online.” Carvajal-Leoni points out “ In our case we had shown our film had a local demand, so it was genius of EVO to allow us to present our film straight to its home audience at the local multiplex.”
EVO Entertainment Group is no stranger to pushing boundaries within the cinema industry, whether it be their innovative Cinema-Entertainment Center Hybrid model, event-based cinema experiences, passionate community involvement campaigns, or other forward thinking initiatives such as the Tiramisu For Two release. EVO’s Co-Founder/President & CEO, Mitchell Roberts, embraced the collaboration with great optimism and is thrilled to continue building on the EVO reputation for innovation. “We’re constantly looking for fresh and innovative ways to provide our guests with the best possible entertainment experience.” Roberts says. “When Sergio & Romina approached us with their film, we instantly saw it as an opportunity to not only do something historic with a direct release model, but also to provide our Central Texas guests with a new type of story that they can truly connect with on a personal level.”
The film tells the story of Giorgio (Portrayed by local Actor Bobby Olson), an over-the-hill, introverted Italian man who has lived his entire life obsessed with the memory of a Texan woman he once met, until he finally finds her on Facebook 30 years later. Tiramisu for Two is a Fellini-esque dark comedy that tells a story of true love, and whatever that means in this crazy age of social media and digital communication.
