With a long history of community initiatives, concerns, and actions over the rights of young children to early education, Reggio Emilia, Italy, has municipally developed a system of education for children from birth to age 6. Reggio Children was established with the support of local citizens and members of public administration in 1994 upon the death of Loris Malaguzzi, a key founder of the Reggio Approach to early education. Reggio Children is an International Centre for the Defense and Promotion of the Rights and Potentials of Children.
