Rising star conductor Valentina Peleggi makes U.S. opera debut in Seattle

No matter how many times you’ve seen “The Barber of Seville” — let alone heard the hit tune that Figaro, the title character, sings as his first entrance — you can expect fresh insights into this well-known score under Valentina Peleggi’s baton. The Italian conductor is bringing her special affinity with the brand of opera perfected by Rossini to the final production of Seattle Opera’s 60th-anniversary season.

Returning in the popular staging by the Australian director Lindy Hume that was first seen here in 2017, “The Barber of Seville” opens May 4. It marks the U.S. opera debut of Peleggi, named by classical music magazine Musical America as one of the Top 30 Professionals of 2023.
