On Saturday, September 15, as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club (SFIAC), the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club Foundation is proud to sponsor this year's Festa Coloniale Italiana and La Musica d'Italia in Washington Square Park - celebrations of Italian and Italian-American culture, music, food and heritage in the heart of Little Italy, North Beach.
This year's Festa Coloniale Italiana will run from 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. along Stockton St. between Filbert and Union sts, and then from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. with a free concert in Washington Square Park. During the day, browse through Italianissimi-inspired and imported products of the outside market-place vendors, enjoy live music from the Festa stage – with performances from Moreno Fruzzetti; John DeMers and his Sinatra tribute; Tom Torriglia; Steve Albini and il Sole; Terra, Sangue, Mare with Michela Musolino and Fabio Turchetti; and The North Beach Boys featuring Rene Sevieri.
There will be an Italian dancing demonstration by the Ricco Italian Dancers, (directed by Antonia Bava), and the expert pizza-dough-toss by 12-time world champion and restauranteur Tony Gemignani of Tony’s Pizza Napoletana of North Beach. Then, continue up Stockton St. to the display of Classic Collectable Italian Motorcars from Dreams On Wheels SF.
Inside, the Club’s main ballroom will be transformed into an Italian piazza, accented with Italian scooters and vendors selling Italian-inspired and imported products, strolling accordionist George Campi, and Bay Area Italian organizations, including law enforcement.
At 6:00 p.m., the celebration continues with La Musica d'Italia in Washington Square Park, a free concert celebrating 100 years of Italian music and song featuring the talent of Daniel Rodriguez “The Singing Policeman,” Maria Kavanaugh, Maria Infantino, and Chris Macchio. Bring your blanket for lawn seating! (There will be limited seating for the disabled and elderly.)
The Festa Coloniale Italiana is the only authentic traditional Italian festival held in San Francisco. It showcases the SFIAC’s incredible facility and rich history, and it is a free, fun, family event that is open to the public.
