Help Us Unite the Two Bays: Naples and SF

Apr 26, 2013 1331

Naples, as depicted here in the Vatican Hall of Maps, is a hotbed of world cultural heritage. The city was founded 2800 years ago as a Greek colony, making it one of the oldest cities in the world, and since then it has been the seat of duchies, kingdoms and an empire of diverse cultural groups with diverse languages.

On the Bay of Naples, the historic city center is the largest in all of Europe, and the port has the second highest passenger flow in the world after Hong Kong. One of the cultural jewels of Naples is the Teatro di San Carlo, the stunning opera house originally built in 1737.

This year, in honor of the 2013 Year of Italian Culture in the US, the orchestras and choruses of Teatro di San Carlo and San Francisco will unite on October 25th in a performance of Verdi's Requiem at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. This concert is part of a larger endeavor to deepen business and social ties between the two bays. Click here to learn more about Unite The Two Bays.

Join us June 15th for an unforgettable Gala Event with the Mayor of Naples and Teatro di San Carlo President Hon. Luigi de Magistris at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco to benefit the October 25th performance. Tickets are available here.
