An exhibition by Italian photographer Claudia Corrent, on view March 3-April 7, 2017.
Insulae – meaning “Islands” – is a photographic project by Claudia Corrent about the city of Venice and its territory, which investigates the relationship between place and identity.
In pursuit of a fresh perspective on the visual topography of the city, Corrent developed an understated, pastel-toned gaze over Venice’s lagoon and islands. Rejecting cliché, her focus on the small details and quiet moments of everyday Venetian life is far removed from the standard representations of the city’s tourist destinations. Corrent describes her working method as “casual, so as to favor an encounter with the reality of the place through its objects, people and artifacts.”
