by Little Italy San Jose
For the past 6 months, Little Italy representatives participated in a series of meetings with other stakeholders, City of San Jose Staff, consultants, and leaders of the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy to put together a thorough plan to bring improvements to the Guadalupe Park from Julian to Santa Clara Street. This section of the park is in the heart of our Little Italy district and we look forward to further progress of implementation of these ideas in the near future.
Ideas that were given were as grand scale as a Ponte Vecchio replica bridge over the Guadalupe River, installing Bocce courts, an Amphitheater and a Beer Garden and as practical as improving connections to the park and little Italy from Downtown and San Pedro Square, adding Soccer fields and measures to improve safety. With all the housing currently underway between Little Italy and San Pedro Square, the City is making it a priority to activate this public space for the growing residents of the area. While these were just planning meetings and the list of the recommendations that will be implemented are still being finalized, we were excited to be given the opportunity to work with the City to share our many ideas to improve the Guadalupe park in our neighborhood and bring some vibrancy to Little Italy San Jose.
