October 13 has gone, yet the memory of that gorgeous, sunny San Francisco day will linger in my mind - in the minds of those who enjoyed the Italian Heritage Parade.
Smiles, fun and joy were everywhere in North Beach yesterday. Italians celebrated along with the people and the organizations of San Francisco of all ethnicities, including the neighboring people of Chinatown with their lovely queen. Everybody was cheering at the Italians' unique heritage in the City by the Bay: this is the oldest Italian-American parade in the whole of the United States, dating back to 1868. They were saying: we like you, we respect you, we are all proud citizens of this great city. What a wonderful display of civic values.
