Hazleton is filled with holiday cheer as the community came together for the Buon Natale Christmas Market at CAN DO Community Park. The event celebrated Italian heritage, community, and the meaning of Christmas. Hazelton’s Unico, the largest Italian American service organization in the U.S., hosted a Christmas village.
President Donna Delehanty explained why the organization wanted to host the event.“It’s just to make us feel aware of the story of Christmas. We are of Italian heritage, so we wanted to bring it back to the community,” said Delehanty. As a nonprofit, Unico also gives back to the community through scholarships and support for people in need, making the market a celebration with a purpose.
