Fate of Pittsburgh’s Columbus Statue Hangs in the Balance

Wednesday, Sept. 23 will prove to be a pivotal moment in Pittsburgh’s history, as the city’s Art Commission will decide the fate of the 50-foot Christopher Columbus monument, which has overlooked Oakland since 1958. Click here and vote “NO ACTION” to make your voice heard, before it’s too late.

The Schenley Park statue, sculpted by Italian-born Pittsburgh resident Frank Vittor, is a symbol of acceptance of Italian Americans into the fabric of the United States. Columbus Day has become synonymous with Italian Heritage Day, the time when we remember the sacrifices made by our parents and grandparents, and the contributions Italian Americans have made in the U.S.
