Filitalia International & Foundation (FI&F) is seeking a museum volunteer / Intern to assist document, maintain, & exhibit for the History of Italian Immigration Museum (HIIM), located on the historical Passyunk Avenue & Mifflin Triangle at 1834 East Passyunk Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19148. Interns will lead the project from start to finish, utilizing the Foundation’s materials and Italian & Italian American artifacts to archive, update, & an exhibit with a constructed narrative.
This Internship gives students the rare opportunity to have complete responsibility for the execution of Curatorial Abilities, Executive Assistant Functions & Skill Sets, & Social Media & Communication capabilities, while helping to build students’ resumes, portfolios, & connect them with the Philadelphia & Italian Communities. DETAILS:
Students are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours during weekdays at the HIIM, 1834 East Passyunk Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19148, and will be expected to meet deadlines provided by the Assistant Director of Filitalia Foundation & History of Italian Immigration Museum
Students will work with the Assistant Director, who will be able to answer questions and offer any necessary guidance.
Assistant in the usage of Social Media
Documentation, Maintenance, & other Museum Collections Management functions
Tour Guide to Visitors that attend the museum during the week/weekend.
Assist in the curation & oversight of Filitalia’s Social Media Networks.
Interns will be given free access to Filitalia International events during their internship period to further volunteer & work event.
Important connections in both the global Italian Community, Museum & Research Fields, Curatorial Abilities & Work, Executive Assistant Functions & Skill Sets, Social Media & Communication Skills, & the Philadelphia Community.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Deadline to apply: Sunday, September 1st, 2018 (11:59 p.m. EST)
Students notified: Friday, September 6th, 2018 (5:00 p.m. EST)
Internship begins: Monday, September 16th, 2019
Internship concludes: Monday, December 9th, 2019.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Students must be:
A Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in college, majoring in one of the following
fields: Communications, Art History, Education, International Studies, History
or Italian Studies.
A graduate student pursuing a degree in International Studies, Public
History, Italian Studies or Museum Education, Museum Exhibition, Museum
Studies, Radio & Broadcasting.
A recent graduate (no longer than a year out of school) who pursued a
degree in Art, Art History, Education, International Studies, History or Italian
Studies.

3. Preference will be given to students who have museum, gallery and/or curatorial experience.
