The chalk art is fading on the streets of Little Italy, but the spirit and energy of the first Madonnari Arts Fest remains bright. In the midst of an impending hurricane, Little Italy staged a gorgeous first class international arts festival with 45 visual and 85 performing artists, including opera singers, a dance troupe, guitarists and some artists from Italy. The turnout was terrific as Little Italy locals were joined by a peaceful and joyful group of artists and patrons of the arts. Delicious food and wine was available and the festival's grand finale was a rooftop Beatles concert by The Apple Scruffs.
This event was founded and organized by native Italian Germano Fabiani and his wife, Cyd Wolf, proprietors of Germano's Piattini and Cabaret. They joined hands with 25 Little Italy businesses, Columbus Celebrations committee, AIAC, MICA, BSA, and other individuals and groups in a project that has showcased Little Italy Baltimore as a collaborative and forward thinking community.
"Together, in the spirit of the Italian heritage of innovation and artistic excellence, we are creating new traditions in Little Italy," said Fabiani.
