Jersey City residents will be showing off their Italian Pride this weekend at the city's seventh annual Columbus Day Parade. The parade is slated to kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Dickinson High School and make its way down Newark Avenue and concluding at City Hall. The parade's route is designed to pass through they city's historically Italian-American neighborhood which is home to the state's first Italian parish, Holy Rosary Church.
"This is a community parade to celebrate the people of Jersey City and their Italian heritage," said Nick Grillo, the parade committee's president. "That's why this parade is so terrific. New businesses have opened, families and individuals are flowing in and Downtown Jersey City is flourishing more than ever." Joseph Chiusolo, known as a "local celebrity" among first responders and the owner of TurnOut Uniforms, is this year's Grand Marshal.
