The annual Feast of the Assumption in Cleveland's Little Italy has been sponsored by that community's Holy Rosary Church for 118 years. It's been happening there for such a long time that many non-Catholics consider it an Italian celebration, much like St. Patrick's Day is associated with the Irish.
And eating, drinking and merrymaking create the festival's Feast component from Aug. 12 through 15. "For Italians, it is one of the major celebrations of the year," said Stefanie Paganini of the Paganini School of Cooking in Chester Township. "And good eating is a big part of it." She offers a cooling and very Italian Calamari Salad recipe today for those wanting to celebrate with a typical Italian dish at home.
