Columbus Day Parade celebrates Italian culture

Italian-Americans from Macomb County will gather Saturday for a celebration of the culture, history and heritage of Italy during the Columbus Day Parade on Main Street in downtown Mount Clemens. The approximate 40-unit procession will include a variety of social clubs, businesses, pageant queens, marching bands, floats, opera singers, youth groups, and the Macomb County Sheriff's Mounted Division.

"The parade is part of the many events for the Italian community celebration of Italian pride, using Christopher Columbus as a person the Italians look up to and consider an important part of their coming to America," said parade chairman Mark Garagiola of West Bloomfield.
