Come Celebrate Dante in Detroit, MI. By the Statue of Dante on Belle Isle (Central Avenue & Vista Dr) Shelter #12. Saturday, September 11, 2021. 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM Rain or Shine 2021 marks the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death. At the Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan, we believe Dante must be remembered past this year and for at least the next 700 years.

Unfortunately, his commemorative statue on Belle Isle is in poor condition and will probably not withstand a couple of years, let alone to 2721! Considering this, Dante Michigan has started work towards a restoration project to bring the statue to its past glory and carry the memory of the Sommo Poeta to future generations.

Join us for the first DAS in-person event of the year on September 11, a pot-luck celebration to kick off to s fund-raising effort to restore the statue. We cordially invite everyone to bring a dish to share (salad, side dish or fruit).  Chat with old friends, enjoy Italian food, and take a picture with the old Dante to compare it with the fully restored statue next year*

We welcome donations towards the restoration of Dante’s statue.  Please register online by September 8 at  Make your donation online or in-person!
