Interesting lecture by Professor Gabriele Boccaccini on the life of Luigi Ferri. The conference - Luigi Ferri: The Survival of a 12-year-old Italian Child at Auschwitz - at the University of Michigan was organized to mark the 2019 Holocaust Remembrance Day in collaboration with the Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan, the Italian Cultural Institute in Chicago, the University of Michigan Middle East Studies Dept., and the Frankel Center for Judaic Studies.
Professor Boccaccini, a prominent expert in Judaic Studies, told us the story of Luigi Ferri, one of the 766 Italian children deported to the Aushwitz concentration camp and among the 25 survivors. In addition to details on Luigi’s tragic captivity, Professor Boccaccini revealed recently discovered information on his life after 1945, as a result of a long research and analysis.
After the lecture, Consul Maria Manca presented Professor Boccaccini with the award of Knight in the Order of the Star of Italy conferred upon him by the President of the Republic of Italy Sergio Mattarella.
