An American tale: Revising a history carved in stone

It was Sept. 27, 1927, and in White Plains, N.Y., an immigrant man from nearby Port Chester was setting down on paper the first steps of an American journey – detailing how he arrived in America in 1920 aboard the vessel Dante Alighieri and listing his occupation as "granite cutter."

It's his Petition for Naturalization, in which Luigi Del Bianco, born in Naples, will formally renounce his allegiance to Victor Emanuel III, King of Italy, and declare his intent to become a citizen of the United States.
