First Selectman Fred Camillo declared Tuesday, July 26 “Sal DeAngelo Day” in honor of the 100th birthday of a lifelong resident. In a proclamation, Mr. Camillo noted DeAngelo attended Hamilton Avenue School and the “old” Greenwich High School that is now Town Hall on Field Point Road and received a trophy from Gene Tunney at the Boys Club in the Second Annual Silver Cup Boxing Tournament Finals on February 13, 1935.
DeAngelo also played volleyball and racquetball and swam at the Greenwich YMCA and enjoyed the dances there in the Rendezvous Room and caddied at the Round Hill Club and also worked at the legendary Manero’s steakhouse where he served notables like Joe DiMaggio.
