Gaetano Cipolla is a retired professor of Italian and Chairman of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages at St. John’s University in New York City. Cipolla has written numerous scholarly articles on Dante, Petrarch, Tasso, Pirandello, Calvino and others. Some of his essays appear in Labyrinth: Studies on an Archetype.
He is also the author of a number of very successful booklets such as What Italy Has Given to the World and What Makes a Sicilian? He is President of Arba Sicula, an international organization that promotes the language and culture of Sicily and he is the editor of the journal Arba Sicula (Sicilian Spring) and the newsletter Sicilia Parra (Sicily Speaks).
