Holy Rosary Church parishioners have been busy preparing for their 48th annual Italian festival, Festa! 2015, which begins Thursday. The wildly popular festival, which draws thousands each year, will run from 5 to 10 p.m. through Saturday, on the church grounds, 10 Father Salemi Drive. Admission is free. The festival celebrates all things Italian, including the heritage of the parish, with roots dating as far back as the early 1900s.
Festival-goers flock to the event in droves, mainly for the freshly prepared Italian food, made with TLC by parishioners in the church kitchen. The menu includes everything from festival favorite pizza fritta (fried dough), a tradition here for 46 years — deep fried and topped either with homemade tomato sauce and grated cheese or confectioner's sugar — to fried calamari and porchetta. New to the festival this year, by popular demand, will be fried ravioli.
