The Italian Cultural Center of Western Massachusetts presented the 2013 Serviam award recently at St. Anne's Country Club in Feeding Hills to a deacon, a legislator and a professor. Winners Joseph Garde, Angelo Puppolo and Rocco Mesiti have made significant contributions to the Italian-American community.
Garde, a deacon at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, said he was nominated by a member of the Italian Cultural Center and that generally two or three people receive the award every year. According to the Italian Cultural Center, the award has been given every year since 1991.
