"This will be the very first Italian Heritage Display at the Connecticut VA Healthcare System", says Raeleen D'Agostino Mautner, Ph.D., facilitator of the exhibit. "The timing couldn't be better", according to Mautner, who will offer the exhibit at the Newington Campus, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 30. "October is Italian Heritage Month and what's more, 2013 has been declared the year of Italian culture in the United States by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Italian Embassy in Washington DC."
While the exhibit is intended to be educational for those of any background or ethnicity, it will hold special meaning for Italian American veterans, past and present. Through the generosity of Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America (OSIA) and their Commission for Social Justice (CSJ), the Medal of Honor Display will be available for viewing.
