The Boston North End Historical Society is very excited about the September launch in conjuction with the Friends of the North End (FONE) of the fundraising for the interactive art project by world renowned sculptor, Nancy Schön to be installed at St. Leonard’s Church's Peace Garden in the North End to symbolize the first steps down a gangway from Italy to America which Italian immigrants walked after crossing the Atlantic from the 1850’s to the 1920’s.
It is to honor our ancestors who crossed the Atlantic from Italy and other parts of Europe from the 1850s to the 1920s to create a better life for themselves and future generations. We hope you'll be able to participate in this effort. For More questions or if you wish to participate in the project: Contact NEHS Director Anthony Cortese.
We thank the 141 people who have generously donated to date $ 50,000 !!! We are well on our mid-way goal of raising $50,000 by March 1st! We did a month sooner! Next goal $75,000 by May 1
