The Order Sons of Italy in America's New Britain branch will hold its 50th anniversary Christmas dinner — filled with food, entertainment and socializing — Monday evening. The dinner will begin at 7 p.m. at the Angelo Tomasso Sr. Lodge at the New Britain Events Center, 430 Farmington Ave. Alderman Carlo Carlozzi is 100-percent Italian and has been a member of the organization since 1987. "It's my heritage and it's important to remember where you came from," said Carlozzi, who has held several posts with the Sons of Italy and is state treasurer.
The National Sons of Italy was founded in 1905 with the purpose of "assimilating Italian-Americans into American society," Carlozzi said Tuesday. "Now, our goal is to preserve Italian culture." Among other things, Carlozzi said, the 75-member organization provides annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors in New Britain and Berlin and donates to various charities.
