At their December meeting, look members of the Wakefield Sons of Italy collected a trunk-load of care package items for our troops overseas. Toiletries, site snacks, games and other items were brought to Helping our Troops in Stoneham. Helping our Troops is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting soldiers from Massachusetts. This is a new cause for the group, many of whom are veterans themselves.
In addition, the SOA recently donated to other local nonprofits, including the Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham and Wakefield, the Wakefield Council of Clubs and Casa Monte Cassino in Boston. Money raised by events, such as the annual charity auction in June, allow the group to help out these important organizations as well as give college scholarships.
