
The Waterbury Chapter of UNICO National will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Hall on 309 S. Main Street, Waterbury. Current and prospective members from Waterbury and the 18 surrounding towns are invited to attend. Contact waterburyunico@yahoo.com for questions.
UNICO was founded in 1922 in Waterbury, by a group of professional Italian-Americans who were denied membership into a local service organization. They created UNICO to raise promote and preserve the Italian-American culture while doing charitable works in their community. The motto of UNICO is "Service Above Self". Since then, UNICO has developed into the largest Italian-American Service Organization in the United States of America. Currently, there are over 5,609 members in 111 chapters in 14 states.
