In everything he does, Chazz Palminteri wants to tell you a story. Whether he's pitching vodka or telling you about his new restaurant, or even describing the acting talents of Tom Hardy, the 63-year-old actor, writer and director frames it as a narrative. But if there's one story he will always be known for, it's "A Bronx Tale," his 1990 one-man show and 1993 film about life growing up in the New York City borough.
"I've done 60 movies, but for the past 25 years, everybody comes over to me and talks about 'Bronx Tale,'" Palminteri, fresh off a plane in London, told Speakeasy in a phone interview Monday. A musical version of the 1960s-set story expected to premiere early next year will ensure people will keep talking to him about it for years to come, and Palminteri doesn't seem to mind.
