It's time to take a step back in time with two weekends of Staten Island tradition. The 114th Anniversary Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society continues July 14-16, 20-23 in Rosebank. The Grotto was built with concrete and thousands of smooth, rounded stones in 1937 by members of the Our Lady Mount Carmel Society, a group founded by Italian immigrant laborers in 1903.
Built with stones and seashells from the Staten Island shore, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast shrine in the grotto sits between Amity Place and Virginia Avenue. The Feast's (always) free entertainment starts every day at 7:30 p.m. and includes Vito Picone and the Elegants on Friday, July 14; Rag Doll's tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons on Saturday, July 15; The Excellents on Friday, July 21; Rick Alviti's Elvis tribut on Saturday, July 22; and Nostalgia '50s-'60s Dance part on Sunday, July 23.
