A robust crowd packed North Jay Street for the 13th annual Little Italy StreetFest Saturday, which features music, craft vendors, and perhaps most importantly, fresh Italian food. "I come for the meatballs!" one woman could be heard shouting among the people on North Jay Street, as a singer on the event stage did his best Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra impressions.
Many of the festival-goers appeared to be eating "rice balls" from Perreca's Bakery and its adjacent restaurant MORE Perreca's Italian Kitchen. Maria Perreca Papa, who owns the family business with her brother, Anthony Perreca, said the rice balls are the size of a softball, and each contains a special meatball with beef, sausage, peas and cheesy rice.
